About SBB Engineering

About Us

SBB is a civil engineering, transportation engineering, land surveying, and land planning firm. We help private developers, business owners, and municipal clients with their civil engineering and surveying requirements, helping turn their ideas into reality and ensure their needs are addressed in a responsible manner.

We hold Professional Engineering Registrations in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Texas, and California. Our land surveying services cover Kansas and Missouri.

How SBB got Started

SBB began as a site development and land surveying firm in 2012. Our founders were driven to provide more cost-effective and responsive engineering and surveying services than was available.

With our many years of combined experience, we knew we could provide a superior alternative, and the rest, as they say, is history!

Through the Ages

Company History

2010

Rick Schmidt and Mark Boyd created Green Western LLC, licensed to provide land surveying services in Kansas and Missouri

2012

  • Rick Schmidt, Kevin Beck, and Mark Boyd created Schmidt, Beck and Boyd Engineering LLC, as an engineering consulting firm licensed to provide civil engineering and land surveying services in Kansas and Missouri

2015

Schmidt, Beck and Boyd Engineering LLC changed their name to SBB Engineering LLC

2016

SBB’s Leadership Team Expanded with the addition of Jeff Laubach, PE

2018

Brian Austin joined SBB as owner/partner and SBB opened its Lawrence office

2019

SBB Engineering relocated to the Downtown River South District at 101 S. Kansas Ave.

2022

SBB’s Leadership Team Expanded with the advancement of Patrick LaFontaine as an owner/partner.
